What Scale's Right for Me?

PlayScale is used for Barbie and other approx. 12" adult figures such as
vintage GI Joes. It is the correct scale for 8" dolls that represent
children. It's also your best choice for 15" and bigger dolls like Gene.
Most items will look fine with the larger Genes. This scale also works well
for the 18" American Girl Dolls.
I believe "PlayScale" is the most common term
for this scale, although it's also very commonly known as "1:6" and 2 Inch. This is probably the best size for craft projects like rubber stamping and tag art although you'll find a larger selection in the smaller 1" scale section. I can't make the larger printables in PlayScale because they're too big to print on one page. You can print them in 1" scale and take them to your local photocopy shop. They should be able to print them at 200% for you. |

Called "1 Inch" because 1 scale inch = 1 full sized foot, this scale is
the most common scale used in dollhouses. Every printable I make has a version in
this scale. This is probably a good size for craft projects like rubber stamping
and tag art although you may prefer the larger size of the PlayScale section. Steven Wilson, a military modeler and administrator of Central Arkansas Scale Modelers notes that 1:32 scale modelers can print the 1 inch scale minis at 37.5%, and that 1:35 scale modelers can print the 1 inch scale minis at 28.5% to get the right size. | ½ Inch Scale | 1:24 |
Called "½ Inch" because ½ scale inches = 1 full sized foot, this scale is
also commonly used in dollhouses. This is also the correct scale for the
larger Department 56 Snow Village. Most of the printables get made into this
scale. If I have anything in 1" Scale you'd like to see in ½" just email me to let me know.
You can also print 1" Scale items at 50% or print them in 1" Scale and take them to your
local photocopy store and ask them to reduce it to 50% for you. A note to Department 56 collectors interested in the smaller (1:43) villages: The ½" items printed at 90-95% work well for your interests. This is much larger than 1:43, but I understand that the people in your collections are a bit out of scale. A special thanks to Carol Cason for the Department 56 info! |

Called "¼ Inch" because ¼ scale inches = 1 full sized foot, this scale is
also commonly used in dollhouses and is called "O" Scale for model trains.
Because items are so small, only the larger printables have a ¼" scale version.
Here's a tip: print
the 1" scale version at 25% or print them in 1" Scale and take them into your
local print or photocopy and ask them to reduce it to 25% for you.
